Woman charged with letting baby drown

Bond is set at $600,000 for a 19-year-old Chicago woman accused of watching her 5-month-old daughter drown in a bathtub because being a mother kept her from going to parties.

Police originally believed the girl's April 4th death was accidental.

Rozlynn Rodgers told officers she'd momentarily stepped away while giving the child a bath and when she came back, the girl had accidentally drowned.

But Assistant State's Attorney Mary Anna Planey said during a bond hearing Wednesday that Rodgers later said "she didn't want to be a mom anymore because she couldn't go to parties if she had to take care of the baby."

Rodgers has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery to a police officer.

A telephone listing for Rodgers could not be found.
