No charges in fatal stabbing

Chicago police have released a man who fatally stabbed a 15-year-old and injured another teen, concluding the youths had apparently tried to mug the man.

According to police, the would-be muggers were drinking on the street when they accosted the 53-year-old man on a South Side street shortly before midnight Monday.

Police say the man attempted to walk away but was pulled back by the teens, at which time the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the 15-year-old in the chest and the 18-year-old in the thigh.

The 15-year-old was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead early Tuesday. The 18-year-old was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
