Big business poses the real problem
How naive are these so-called environmentalists who write into this publication?
They promote the use of things like electricity and natural gas as an alternative to wood burning. How do they think electricity and natural gas are produced?
I will tell you how they are produced: By burning coal, generating stockpiles of nuclear waste and drilling on pristine lands.
Why are public utilities and big oil given a pass while we continue to focus on the individual?
I don't know about you, but I would rather use wood ( a renewable resource ), than line the pockets of big public utilities like Com Ed and Nicor.
These major environmental issues can only be solved by a partnership between government and big business, not by creating more laws to restrict individual freedoms.
Technology will alleviate these problems eventually if it is allowed to do so. This has not happened because big business is more interested in big profits and keeping the staus quo than it is in the environment.
Our federal government has let this happen, especially under the pathetic leadership of President Bush.
Wake up, American citizens. This assault on personal freedoms is nothing more than wealthy corporate entities imposing their will on the general public and using working-class citizens as scapegoats.
