Man found injured along Glen Ellyn train tracks
A Villa Park teenager was in critical condition at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after suffering what police believe to be injuries sustained in a collision with a train.
Police responded about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday to train tracks directly behind a home on the 1000 block of Crescent Boulevard in Glen Ellyn after a passenger on a train reported seeing a man lying near the tracks.
Officers found the injured 19-year-old conscious and breathing near the tracks, but his condition prevented police from discovering what happened.
Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer said the teen's location and the severity of his injuries make it appear he was hit by a train at some point while walking from Wheaton to Villa Park on or along the tracks.
"At this point, there's no indication of a cause other than that," Holmer said.
The area where the teen was found is about a mile and a half from the nearest train station, close to where the tracks cross over I-355.
Police are trying to identify exactly when the collision occurred and which train may have hit the teen.
Authorities delayed trains in the area while they inspected the scene. Metra passengers on six different trains were delayed for between seven and 24 minutes.
