2 hospitalized after Hoffman Estates crash
Two people were taken to area hospitals after a one-car crash this morning in Hoffman Estates.
Hoffman Estates fire Capt. Tom Mackie said the driver of a silver four-door vehicle crashed head-on into a light pole at an unknown speed at around 6:30 a.m. The car was headed westbound on Route 72 near Ash Road.
Both the driver and the passenger remain unidentified. Mackie said the driver had to be extricated and flown by helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. The passenger was taken by ambulance to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.
"There was significant damage to the car," Mackie said, who added there didn't appear to be life-threatening injuries to either occupant of the car.
Mackie said firefighters were on the scene for a little more than an hour, during which traffic was blocked along Route 72. The accident scene was then turned over to police for further investigation.
