Villa Park lights up trail for holidays
Villa Park will usher in the holidays with the 10th anniversary of its Joyful Traditions event.
Festivities, sponsored by Villa Park businesses, will run 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, along the Illinois Prairie Path at Villa Avenue and Park Boulevard.
"It's the Villa Park chamber's way of saying thank you for your patronage," said Alesia Bailey, executive director of the Villa Park Chamber of Commerce.
The evening's festivities begin with the arrival of Santa on an antique pickup truck at 4 p.m. He'll stay to hear Christmas wishes and pose for photos with youngsters.
Highlights include pony rides, horse-drawn carriage and trolley rides, food samples, hot cocoa, holiday carolers, inflatable characters and s'mores.
The Willowbrook High School show choir will perform from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the gazebo and on some of the carriage and trolley rides.
Businesses in the area, many of which have decorated the trees along the Prairie Path, will remain open for the special event to offer special treats, including roasted nuts, glog and candy canes.
Everything is free courtesy of the Villa Park businesses.
Revelers are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the local food pantry.
