Elgin man dies in crash as he flees police
An Elgin man fleeing from police was killed late Thursday when his car slammed into a semi in Hampshire, police said.
Ricardo Castillo-Torres, 21, of 461 Ashland Ave., Apt 2., was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A Pingree Grove officer tried to pull Castillo-Torres over for at routes 47 and 72 for a traffic violation, police said.
Castillo-Torres sped westbound on Route 72, police said.
He slammed head-on into the semi truck at State Street, police said.
The semi driver was treated and released from St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin.
There were no other occupants of either vehicle, police said.
Castillo-Torres was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
