Glen Ellyn man walks away from small plane crash
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Two men from Illinois walked away after the small airplane they were in flipped over upon crashing during landing in New York, an airport official said Monday.
Workers then cleared the runway in time for a flight that was bringing a liver to be transplanted into a waiting patient, said Peter Scherrer, manager of the Westchester County airport.
"We didn't want any delays with that one," Scherrer said.
Charles Taylor, 43, of Glen Ellyn, was piloting the Cessna just before midnight Sunday when he missed the runway and clipped an antenna, Scherrer said. The plane flipped, back over front, but Taylor and his passenger, Sek Cheong Moy, 35, of Chicago, were strapped in and were not seriously injured.
"When the rescue crew got there, they were out of the plane," Scherrer said. "They had even called 911."
The men were taken to Westchester Medical Center, where another passenger was waiting for the liver being delivered on another flight.
That plane came in without delay about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, Scherrer said.
