One killed in North Aurora crash on Route 25
A 26-year-old Aurora man died Sunday after the car he was driving swerved into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle on Route 25 in North Aurora, police said.
Scott J. Beisterfield, of 2475 Ridge Ave., was pronounced dead at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora at 6:14 p.m. after the wreck, just north of Ridge Road, authorities said.
According to police, Beisterfield was driving north on Route 25 about 5:30 p.m. in a 2005 Dodge Neon when the car crossed into southbound lanes and struck a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer driven by George Mejia, 43, of the 200 block of Briar Lane, North Aurora.
Mejia and his passenger -- an 11-year-old boy -- were taken to Provena Mercy with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
"No citations have been issued and it is unknown if alcohol was a factor," North Aurora police said in a news release.
The accident, which shut down Route 25 in the area of Ridge Road about three hours, is under investigation by North Aurora police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
