Carmel 7, St. Joseph 0

Scoring seems to be a strength for Carmel Catholic's girls soccer team.

And scoring 5 goals in the first half is getting to be a habit. Carmel did it again Monday, making it the third week in a row it's happened.

Junior forward Alex Hauser had a pair of goals and added an assist.

Sara Petermann picked up a goal and added 2 assists as Carmel rolled past visiting St. Joseph 7-0 in an East Suburban Catholic Conference game in Mundelein.

The Corsairs improved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the ESCC.

"(Hauser) has been playing better and that's nice to see," said Carmel coach John Halloran. "She gives us some depth up top. I expect it will help us down the stretch."

Hauser's production gives the Corsairs another scoring option up front alongside Petermann, Kassidy Brown and Maddie Ogrinc.

"This year I made a switch to forward and subbing in," said Hauser, who started the season as an outside midfielder while getting limited time at forward and defense. "Whenever I go in, I've got to step up and help them out. When I'm in I always like to assist them a lot. I'm big passer and it helps to get the big goals."

The other goals for the Corsairs were from Ogrinc, Stephanie Swanson, Lauren Bowles and Leah Einarsen. Ogrinc also picked up an assist along with Swanson, and Trillhaase.

St. Joseph dropped to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the ESCC.

Carmel keepers Maria Sapienza and Brooke Bowes split the shutout, making a pair of saves.

"Carmel is probably the best team we've faced all year," St. Joseph coach Nichole Hopf said. "Their first line was very, very good. We expected them to be like a St. Viator or Benet. But Carmel is a much better team."
