Indiana reports 1,140 new cases, 8 deaths linked to virus

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana's confirmed cases of the coronavirus rose by 1,140 on Saturday, state health officials said.

The Indiana Department of Health said a total of 92,434 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported since the start of the pandemic.

Another eight people have died of the virus, bringing the total number of deaths to 3,066.

Gov. Eric Holcomb this week extended Indiana's statewide face mask order for another month, saying it was still needed to control spread of the coronavirus.

Holcomb issued the order in July, which requires face covering use by anyone ages 8 and older in any indoor public or business areas and at outdoor public spaces when sufficient distancing can't be maintained.

The Republican governor also extended limits on crowd sizes for restaurants, bars and public events.
