Author to talk about Israel, Palestine
Alice Rothchild, author of "Broken Promises Broken Dreams: Stories of Jewish and Palestinian Trauma and Resilience," will speak at 7:30 p.m. May 5 at Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington.
Rothchild is a Boston-based physician and co-chairwoman of the Boston chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace. Dr. Rothchild travels frequently to Israel and the West Bank with Boston JVP's Health and Human Services Project which sets up and operates mobile health clinics in the West Bank to provide much-needed medical services.
Her new book, "Broken Promises, Broken Dreams: Stories of Jewish and Palestinian Trauma and Resilience," recounts her experiences as she grapples with the reality of life in Israel and the hardships of Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza.
In her own words, "I invite the reader to engage in a different kind of conversation about Israel and Palestine, rooted in Jewish humanism, grounded in empathy and forgiveness, and coupled with an appreciation of the urgent need for political action."
