• He is serving his sixth year as principal, but has worked at the school since it opened, including two years as assistant principal.

• What is your favorite memory from Frederick School? "All of the excitement that went into the building and opening of a new school back in 2000."

• What do you think is an unique aspect of your school? "There are not many fifth- and sixth-grade buildings in the area, so many of the things we do are unique. Our PE staff has done a wonderful job of bringing in new and interesting programs to our school in which all students have an opportunity to participate. Programs include a family walking club, which meets twice a week and allows the students and parents to come in before school to log walking miles using pedometers. Also our traverse climbing wall has been a big hit with the kids."

• What are you most proud of? "Living in the community, it is a thrill to see the alumni of District 46 move on to be high-achieving students in high school and productive, contributing members of our community."

• If all school enrollments were determined by choice, what would you say to potential parents to convince them to choose Frederick School for their children? "We have a caring and well educated staff who work hard to help all of our students succeed."

• How has technology changed the way students learn over the past five years? Has that been a good change? "Technology has moved beyond being an extravagance to being a necessity for our students. It is amazing how tech savvy the students are these days, and that leads to new and challenging issues for schools."

• If you can get one thing accomplished between now and the end of May in your school, what would it be? "To find ways to bring the newest and most up-to-date technology into our building in order to enhance the learning experience for our students."
