Elgin Community College to host well-known bassist

Bassist Victor Wooten, a celebrated musician known for breaking boundaries and defying categorization, will perform Saturday at Elgin Community College's Visual and Performing Arts Center.

The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the center's Blizzard Theatre, located at ECC's main campus at 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Tickets are $32 and $28.

In addition, by today, you may purchase a three-course, pre-show gourmet dinner prepared by students of ECC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Institute of Elgin for an additional $25.

Voted "Bass Player of the Year" three years in a row by Bass Player Magazine, Wooten has been recognized for his work as a solo artist as much as his work as a member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Wooten is an innovator on the bass guitar, composer, arranger, producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist.

Wooten has recorded and performed with artists like Branford Marsalis, Mike Stern, Bruce Hornsby, Chick Corea, Dave Matthews and Prince. His latest recording, "Palmystery," will be released on April 1. "Palmystery" is a genre-bending eclecticism that embraces a range of styles -- jazz, funk, pop, soul, gospel, world music and more -- and boasts a diverse guest list that includes Mike Stern, Richard Bona, Keb' Mo' and others.

This presentation is supported by the Performing Arts Fund, a program of Arts Midwest funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes a great nation deserves great art, with additional contributions from the General Mills Foundation, Land O'Lakes Foundation and the Illinois Arts Council.
