Briefs: Bridge closure in Batavia

The Wilson Street bridge in Batavia will be closed Wednesday so workers can pour concrete for sidewalks. It will also be closed from 7 a.m. Thursday to 3 p.m. Friday for additional deck work. A 16-day closure will likely start April 14.

Swimming discount

Hall Quarry Beach 2007 season pass holders can renew their season passes at a discounted rate during a "Welcome Back" promotion offered by the Batavia Park District through Friday. The first 150 households to renew their season passes will receive a free beach towel. Increased rates will take effect Saturday. Register from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Batavia Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St. You also can register at the Eastside Community Center, Wilson and Van Buren streets, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

U-46 elementary art show

"Art is Elementary," featuring the artwork of Elgin Area School District U-46 elementary students, is on display at the First Community Bank, 50 Tyler Creek Plaza, Elgin. The show runs through Friday. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Tax help for seniors

Free confidential tax preparation service will be provided to senior citizens Thursday afternoons through April 10 at the Geneva Township Senior Center, 400 Wheeler Drive, Geneva. Appointments are required. Call (630) 232-3602.

Outdoor fun at lab

Fermilab has a Family Outdoor Activity Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. April 27 at the laboratory's Lederman Science Center. The free event includes bug-catching, a birds of prey display, a demonstration on how to look for life in a log, a look at the buffalo herd and a chance to net pond critters. Business expo April 30

The 15th Annual Rolling Down the River Business-to-Business Expo is scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. April 30 at the Pheasant Run Mega Center, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles. The event includes more than 200 exhibitors from across the region. Admission is free, although visitors are asked to present a business card.
