Derailment cuts Amtrak service to St. Louis
PONTIAC -- Amtrak has canceled some trains between St. Louis and Chicago and plans to put passengers from others on chartered buses after a freight train derailment blocked tracks.
Union Pacific says the train derailed just after 9:30 a.m. near Pontiac, about 35 miles northeast of Normal.
No one was hurt, but the tracks remain closed.
Amtrak says passengers on two morning trains between the cities will be bused to their destinations, while two afternoon trains have been canceled. Passengers with tickets on the later trains can go tonight, when Amtrak expects the line to be open.
Amtrak says passengers on the Texas Eagle train, which travels from Chicago to San Antonio, Texas, and can't get through, will be bused to either Chicago or St. Louis.
