Principal told to stay off grounds

Nippersink Elementary District 2 issued a letter to parents stating that a suspended principal is prohibited from coming on to school property. Spring Grove Elementary School Principal Daniel Markofski, 47, of Richmond, is accused of bringing two teenage girls to a Wisconsin motel for marijuana, pornographic movies, wine coolers, cognac and sex on April 5. He was arrested and charged with two counts of exposing a child to harmful material and one count of sexual intercourse with a child age 16 or older, according to documents filed by the Milwaukee County district attorney's office. The incident occurred in Glendale, just north of Milwaukee. Nippersink Elementary District Superintendent Dan Oest said parents or residents should call the Spring Grove or Richmond police departments if they spot Markofski on school property. Oest said criminal trespassing charges would be pursued against Markofski. He's suspended without pay pending a dismissal hearing set for Tuesday night.

3,000 invites, wrong date

Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, based in Barrington and Crystal Lake, recently sent out nearly 3,000 invitations for an upcoming community memorial service -- only to then discover the date was printed incorrectly. The correct information is as follows: The memorial service, held to honor the memory of all loved ones, is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 28, with registration from 6:30 to 6:45 p.m., at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 West Terra Cotta Ave. in Crystal Lake. The service will include a candle lighting ceremony as the names of those who have died are read. Following the service, those who attend are encouraged to share stories about their loved one in an informal setting. Those who attend are asked to bring a photo or other symbol of remembrance to be displayed. To register for the service and add a loved one's name to the memorial program, contact the Center for Loss and Hope at (847) 381-5599, ext. 250.
