SIU tuition to rise

Tuition for new students at Southern Illinois University is going up. The university's board of trustees signed off on a plan to charge new undergraduates on the Edwardsville campus $622 more per year, starting this fall. New students in Carbondale would pay $627 more annually. The 12 percent jump in Edwardsville pushes total tuition there to $5,850. The 10 percent boost in Carbondale puts the tuition tab to $6,975 a year. Under Illinois' guaranteed tuition law, students pay the same tuition rate for four years. The board, while meeting in Edwardsville, also approved fee increases that start next fall.
