Alleged accomplices charged in 14-year-old boy's death
OREGON -- Authorities say an adult and two teens face murder charges in connection with a break-in during which a houseguest fatally shot a 14-year-old intruder in self-defense.
Police say Travis Castle of Durand was shot to death after breaking into a home April 6 near the northern Illinois village of Stillman Valley.
Authorities say 16-year-old Nathan Whitmire and 15-year-old Justin Doyle broke into the home with Castle while 18-year-old Cody Wayne Moore waited in a car.
Moore, Whitemire and Doyle, all of Rockford, all are charged as adults with first-degree murder, home invasion and residential burglary. They are being held in lieu of $1 million bail each.
Ogle County Public Defender Dennis Riley declined to comment on the cases.
