AMD to cut jobs, lowers outlook
SAN FRANCISCO -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s plan to jettison 10 percent of its work force is the latest sign the seesaw battle between semiconductor rivals Intel Corp. and AMD has taken its toll on both companies. AMD said its job cuts, which will amount to more than 1,600 workers out of 16,800 worldwide, are slated to start later this month and finish by September. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company also warned investors first-quarter sales were lower than expected across all business lines.
