District holding meeting on principal accused of sex incident

Concerned parents are expected to turn out tonight for an emergency meeting related to a school principal accused in a marijuana-laced sex escapade with teenage girls in a Wisconsin motel room.

Spring Grove Elementary School Principal Daniel Markofski, 47, was still listed at the Milwaukee County Jail today. He was charged Tuesday with two counts of exposing a child to harmful material and one count of sexual intercourse with a child age 16 or older.

Nippersink Elementary District 2's board will gather at 7 p.m. for the emergency session. It will be at Nippersink Middle School, 10006 Main St., Richmond.

In a statement issued by Nippersink Elementary District, Superintendent Dan Oest said officials learned of Markofski's arrest Tuesday afternoon. He said school officials are "aggressively cooperating" with police in Glendale, Wis.

"There have been no reports of any allegations involving Mr. Markofski and any Nippersink School District students," Oest said. "Mr. Markofski will not be returning to Spring Grove School."

Spring Grove Elementary School is on the Lake/McHenry County border. Some parents were critical of school officials for not quickly addressing Markofski's arrest with them.

Markofski was arrested early Saturday in a motel room in Glendale, just north of Milwaukee. An officer on routine patrol in the motel found Markofski partially clothed with two girls, ages 15 and 16.

Authorities said Markofski performed a sex act on the 16-year-old girl with the younger teen in the room. Milwaukee County court documents state Markofski met the 16-year-old on a telephone chat line.

Markofski also is accused of providing marijuana-stuffed cigars to the girls and ordering an in-room pornographic movie. Police said the teens wanted to watch "Alvin and the Chipmunks," but Markofski opted for the porn.

Glendale police officer Thomas Treder entered the motel room after detecting a marijuana scent. Glendale police officer Joel Dhein said it was nothing out of the ordinary for Treder to be checking the motel.

"We're really community policing-based," Dhein said. "He had his area."

Court documents state Treder entered the room and saw a boxer shorts-clad Markofski with the two girls while the porn movie played on a TV at a high volume. The teens were partially clothed.
