SIU wants tuition increase

If you're a parent of an SIU-bound student, you might have to pay more than you expected next fall. Officials have asked the school's trustees to vote on tuition and fee increases in April. Students at the Edwardsville campus would pay $622 more per year. Students in Carbondale would pay $627 more annually. That's a nearly 12 percent increase for the Edwardsville campus where tuition would reach $5,850 a year. The Carbondale tuition increase is nearly 10 percent. Tuition would be $6,975, if approved. Fees would rise by more than $250 under the proposal. Graduate students would face increases, too. But only incoming freshmen, among the undergrads, would be affected thanks to the state's guaranteed tuition law.
