Bank robbery has similarities to Huntley job
A man whose description is similar to that of someone who stuck up a Huntley bank two weeks ago robbed a Union bank Monday, police said.
Or did he?
Just before 2 p.m. Monday, a man about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 145 pounds walked into the Midwest Bank at Main and Depot streets, pointed a small handgun at staff members and told the employees to give him money.
He was wearing a black mask, black, hooded sweat shirt and gray sweat pants with black stripes down the sides. Witnesses pegged his age at between 18 and 22.
He then left the bank and got into the passenger's side of what appeared to be a waiting white Toyota Prius, according to preliminary reports. The vehicle then sped away.
But did he get any loot?
"It is possible the robber got no money," Union police Lt. Rodney Riley said. "That's our thinking right now."
Riley did not elaborate whether he believes the robber got cold feet or left empty-handed.
Riley said there was an FBI agent from Rockford on the scene Monday afternoon. He said the McHenry County Sheriff's Department was handling the investigation.
This is the second bank robbery in McHenry County in two weeks.
Police in Huntley and the FBI are still looking for the man who entered the Castle Bank on March 10 and left with an undisclosed amount of money.
It is believed the Huntley bank robber also left the bank and jumped in the passenger's seat of a small gray car, fleeing through a Huntley subdivision.
Asked whether he felt there was any similarity between the Union bank job and the one in his town, Huntley Deputy Chief Todd Fulton of Huntley said: "From the description of the bank robber, it might be the same person. But the vehicle that was used was different."
