Garden club offers two scholarships

The Arlington Heights Garden Club will award two $1,500 scholarships for students pursuing study in the fields of horticulture, botany, forestry, agriculture or environmental sciences.

Other applicants will be considered if they can demonstrate a working experience in the horticulture/floral/nursery community over the past year. Applicants must be residents of Arlington Heights or adjoining communities, have a C average, and be pursuing enrollment for the 2008-2009 school term in a vocational/technical school, community college or university.

Hersey choirs score big at invitational

John Hersey High School's show choir OnStage captured the Grand Championship at Mundelein High School's Showchoir Invitational on March 8.

OnStage also captured the "Best Vocals" award and the group's band/combo Backstage won "Best Combo." Senior Maggie Dewar was named outstanding soloist in a show.

Hersey's all-woman show choir, Ladies First, also captured the Grand Champion award in the women's division, and earned enough points to compete against Onstage. Ladies First finished as the fourth runner-up in the finals.

Assessment appeal info at library

An assessment appeal seminar for those who wish to appeal their property assessment at the Cook County Board of Review will be at 6:30 p.m. March 26 at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton. The Board of Review is open for appeals from Wheeling Township property owners through May 2.

Vanguard School celebrates 10th

Vanguard School in Arlington Heights will celebrate its 10-year anniversary from 2 to 5 p.m. April 22 in the cafeteria at Forest View Education Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights.
