Elgin teen charged with weapon, drug possession
An Elgin teen who has been on the run for the past week was caught by police Wednesday evening near Addison and Gifford streets, police said.
Victor L. Gonzalez, 19, formerly of 721 S. Liberty St., was charged with possession of a gun without a firearm owner's identification card and possession of marijuana, according to police.
At 3:15 a.m. March 20, the Elgin Police Department tactical team entered 721 S. Liberty St. with a warrant where they recovered an undisclosed amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and items used for drug packaging, police said.
Christopher Gonzalez, 19, of the same address, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a 15-year-old there was charged with possession of marijuana.
The home was red-tagged by Elgin building inspectors and labeled uninhabitable.
During their search of the home, police also found a .380 semiautomatic pistol with two bullets inside and five more hollow-point rounds from elsewhere in a bedroom.
Police determined the gun belonged to Victor, who was unable to own a gun. Police said he is a known street gang member and committed a major crime as a juvenile.
Gonzalez said he spent the last week living with friends after his mother kicked him out of the house.
He was unable to post a $7,500 bond and was taken to the Kane County Correction Center to await an April 11 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
