2nd hotel planned near Rosemont Theater

Rosemont, a town known for having more hotel rooms than residents, is getting a new hotel.

A 200-room Marriott Courtyard with two office buildings is planned near a new InterContinental hotel under construction on River Road south of the Rosemont Theater.

Village officials on Wednesday OK'd a deal to sell the property for $7.56 million to the Harp Group, based in Oakbrook Terrace.

That company plans to build the five-story Marriott with two 150,000-square-foot office buildings on the site.

The hotel will be accompanied by a three-level parking deck with 320 spaces.

"It's big to get this stuff rolling and get it in the ground," Mayor Bradley Stephens said.

Along with moving its own corporate offices to the new Rosemont site, Harp Group is talking with food service company Sysco Corp. to take up 90,000 square feet of the office space, Stephens said.

The deal with Sysco is still under discussion, but officials with the food service company have said Rosemont's new space is desirable, Stephens said.

Construction is expected to be finished by spring 2010.

Harp Group also is planning a pair of hotels along Mannheim Road in Des Plaines.

And it's the developer of the 556-room InterContinental, expected to open this fall. That hotel also will feature Capital Grille and McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant -- and a theater.

The new Marriott Courtyard will be built to the east of an area that Rosemont officials are eyeing for a redevelopment project as part of a partnership with The Cordish Co., based in Baltimore.

Stephens pictures an entertainment and retail hub to rival Chicago's Navy Pier.

The terms of this proposal are still being worked out, officials said.
