Recent water scare is a wake-up call
The village of Buffalo Grove should view the recent water contamination scare as a serious wake-up call. I'm beyond appalled that Mr. Berman could say that the "…staffs did their jobs and did them well."
Two important jobs of the village are to keep its citizens informed and safe; had the water contamination scare been real, the steps taken by the village would have done neither. I am apparently not on the e-mail list the village used to inform its citizens; however, I can assure you that I would not be checking my e-mail before drinking a glass of water.
It is clear that communication must be extremely fast, and be conducted in many different ways to assure safety. The reverse 911 system is essential, but it is not a panacea for a crisis. Additional solutions should be implemented simultaneously to ensure the safety of every citizen.
The village staff was, I am sure, well-intentioned in their efforts, however to compliment them as Mr. Berman has done, makes me wonder how seriously the board will take this matter. The board needs to know that not just "some" citizens were unhappy at how this was contaminated … we all were unhappy.
