Burglars take 5 plasma televisions

Thieves stole five plasma television sets from an East Dundee store Friday.

Police responded to a burglar alarm at 10:28 p.m. Friday and found the two front glass doors broken at the Rent-A-Center, 485 Dundee Ave.

The business is located in the River Valley Square between routes 72 and 25.

Police said the five stolen television sets ranged between 42 inches and 57 inches and could be carried by either one or two people. Their total value was about $12,000.

An unknown amount of television sets had been stolen from the same Rent-A-Center last October, police said.

East Dundee police said the burglary was similar to one that occurred on Sept. 6, 2007, at Century Electronics in West Dundee in which three men from Harvey and Markham were arrested and confessed that they were hired by a Chicago-area group to steal expensive appliances.

East Dundee police have contacted police departments throughout northern Illinois to see if any similar burglaries have recently occurred in their jurisdictions.

East Dundee police ask anyone with knowledge of the burglary to call Detective Mike Seyller at (847) 428-4034.
