TIF no benefit to Long Grove

The Feb. 27 Daily Herald article, "Long Grove approves TIF district" warrants some clarification. It is an important distinction to note that the petition before the village board was from 300 Long Grove registered voters, not just some residents. It is also inaccurate to state that the petition "would have" put the TIF issue to a referendum in November; the board remains obligated by law to file with the Lake County Clerk to have the TIF question put on the ballot, regardless of whether or not they have any interest in the results of that vote.

The village board stated in its 2006 strategic planning meeting that its objective was to "pass the TIF." Since that meeting the board has consistently demonstrated that the interests of the residents were neither a relevant nor an important aspect to their achievement of that objective.

The board's efforts in approving the TIF have been driven by doing a real estate deal, not enacting policy that would benefit the residents of Long Grove.
