AT&T to invest $1 billion

NEW DELHI -- Top U.S. phone company AT&T Inc. will invest $1 billion worldwide this year to build four undersea cables and to expand its network services, senior officials said Wednesday. The bulk of this investment will be outside the U.S. Telecommunication equipment maker Tellabs Inc. in Naperville is a major supplier to AT&T, but AT&T spokeswoman Meghan Roskopf declined to say what equipment suppliers would be chosen.
