Files to be destroyed
The temporary file for all members of the 2002 class of Geneva High School will be destroyed this week. According to Illinois law, a student's record belongs exclusively to the student upon his or her 18th birthday. Students can pick up their file in person at the counseling office with identification or provide their parent with written permission and a photocopy of an ID. Police target DUI offenders
Extra St. Charles police will be on duty targeting drunken drivers as part of a two-week campaign starting today. Police will put a secondary emphasis on catching speeders and seat belt law violators. The effort is funded by an Illinois Department of Transportation grant.
Looking for Batavia homes
Volunteers and unique Batavia houses are needed for Batavia MainStreet's 2008 House Walk, to be held in September. Organizers are looking for houses that have moved, "painted ladies," or others that have interesting characteristics. The next meeting for volunteers is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Panera Bread on Wilson Street. Anyone interested in having their home on the walk or who wants to help should call Sharon Harwick at (630) 269-3071.
St. Charles has Earth Hour
The city of St. Charles will participate in an environmentally friendly program known as Earth Hour from 8 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Officials are encouraging all residents, students and businesses to turn off their lights and unused electrical devices for one hour. The event is sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund and aimed at reducing communities' "ecological footprints."
Chamber has new VP
The St. Charles Chamber of Commerce has named Jody Harness as its new vice president of operations. Harness will maintain the organization's database, do accounting work and assume general office management duties. She can be reached at (630) 584-8384, ext. 10.
Batavia scholarship offers
The Batavia Bulldogs Sports Boosters will award four $1,000 scholarships to seniors at Batavia High School this year. To be eligible, students have to have participated in sports for three years, including their senior year, and have a 3.0 grade point average. Applications can be picked up at the high school guidance office or athletic office and must be returned by April 30.

The Chicago Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness' annual Vision Walk is at 10 a.m. June 8 at Soldier Field in Chicago. Money raised will fund research into causes of blindness. For more information about forming or joining a fundraising team, call (847) 680-0100 or visit www.visionwalk.org.
Art wanted for exhibit
The Aurora Public Art Commission is seeking works for an exhibit titled "Lost and Found: The Art of Making Art After an Extended Interlude." Artists who have, for any reason, stopped making art for a time and resumed creating their work are invited to submit two- and three-dimensional pieces. The exhibit will go on display next year. Deadline for entries is Sept. 26. Artists should send a CD with images of four to 10 recent works including dates, resume, address, phone number, e-mail address, artist's statement and Web site/online gallery if applicable to Aurora Public Art Commission, 44 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60507. Artists who want the packet returned should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
