Taize

A Taize prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. March 9 at the New England Congregational Church, 406 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora.

Using the Scriptures and simple refrains as the words for the prayer, Taize Prayer offers repeated musical mantras. The one-hour service also includes the reading of Scripture, a candle-lighting ritual and silence.

People of Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox heritages are all welcome. Parents are encouraged to bring children and youth who like music and silence.

Jan Benson of Sycamore will be the prayer leader.

Congregational

Dulerio Blackmon, a community advocate from Riverwoods Christian Center in St. Charles Township, will speak about his ministry at the 9 and 10:30 a.m. services March 9 at the Congregational Church, 21 S. Batavia Ave. in Batavia. He will also be present at a lunch at 11:45 a.m. in Paxton Hall.

Dulerio works in the Jericho Circle neighborhood of Aurora. Riverwoods Christian Center has community advocates working in neighborhoods from Carpentersville to Aurora. The advocates' goal is to establish relationships with junior and senior high school students and their families and help the youth achieve their spiritual and educational goals.

Dulerio has initiated a teen development program for the Jericho Circle neighborhood in partnership with Everlasting Word, his home church in Aurora.

Batavia Congregational Church is partnering with Riverwoods for several months and recently donated $3,000 to support the Center. Revella Daniel, a community advocate in east Aurora, also spoke at the church recently.

Catholic

St. Peter Catholic Church welcomes the community to Lent and Holy Week services. The church is at 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva.

Weekday Masses

Two evening Masses have been added for the duration of Lent at 7 and 8:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday; 7 and 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 7 and 8:45 a.m. Friday.

Stations of The Cross

Stations of the Cross are at 7 p.m. Fridays.

Living Stations will be presented at 7 p.m. March 14 and 21.

Holy Week

Mass is at 7 p.m. Holy Thursday, March 20.

There is a 3 p.m. Service of the Word, with Holy Communion and Veneration of the Cross, and a 7 p.m. Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, March 21.

There is an 11 a.m. Blessing of Easter Baskets in Seton Hall and an 8 p.m. Great Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday, March 22.

There are no morning Masses Holy Thursday, Good Friday or Holy Saturday.

Easter

Easter is celebrated at Masses at 7, 9, and 11 a.m. in the church, and 9 and 11 a.m. in the gym March 23. There is no 5 p.m. Mass Easter. For details, call (630) 232-0124.

Episcopal

Calvary Episcopal Church offers opportunities for prayer, worship and reflection throughout the Lenten season. The church is at 222 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31 and Main Street) in Batavia.

On Wednesday evenings during Lent, worshippers are invited to come at 6 p.m. for a simple supper, which will be followed by a brief time of prayer and worship at 6:45 p.m. and a Lenten reflection at 7:05 p.m.

During Lent, Calvary's Sunday and weekday worship schedule remains unchanged.

Services are at 8 and 10:15 a.m. Sundays, with an education hour for children, youth and adults in between beginning at 9:10 a.m.

Weekday services are at 7 a.m. Tuesdays; 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays; and 5:45 p.m. Thursdays. All services include the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
