Glad businesses are obeying smoke law

Protecting people from secondhand smoke in indoor workplaces and public places is good for health and good for business.

We appreciate the efforts of our local businesses in complying with the law and look forward to exploring new places to go out with our friends and family.

By providing 100 percent smoke-free public places and workplaces, thousands of present and future Illinoisans will benefit from a safer, healthier environment in which to work, play and conduct business.

Everyone has the right to breathe smoke-free air. None of us should be forced to choose between earning a living or enjoying a night out with friends and exposing ourselves to the dangerous chemicals in secondhand smoke.

There is growing, bipartisan momentum across the country and the world to protect everyone's right to breathe clean air.

Twenty-two states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and hundreds of cities and counties have passed smoke-free laws that cover all workplaces, including restaurants and bars.
