Rolling Meadows cops shoot, kill knife-wielding man

Rolling Meadows police shot and killed a man Saturday night who they say was intoxicated and threatening officers with multiple knives.

Police responded to a complaint in the 4800 block of Weber Drive at 8:51 p.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, officers found Michael Chybicki, 44, drunk and armed, said Anthony Gaspari, Rolling Meadows Police public information officer.

Gaspari said the officers responded with "lethal force," and Chybicki, whose last known address is in Lake in the Hills, was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gaspari would not release the names of the officers involved or say how many people were at the scene.

The Cook County States Attorneys Public Integrity Unit and Illinois State Police are assisting with the investigation.

Gaspari said more information would be released before noon Monday.
