A closer look at Lambs Farm

Since 1961, Lambs Farm has provided opportunities for men and women with developmental disabilities to flourish through residential, vocational and residential programs.

But the 72-acre site near Libertyville also offers opportunities for families across Lake County to play, shop and eat.

Lambs Farm is now open weekends and will be open daily starting March 24. Here are details about what activities are available and how to get there.

• The farmyard features a variety of small animals including goats, rabbits and chickens. The Discovery Center reveals farm secrets such as the difference between straw and hay. In the petting area, children can mingle with sheep, lambs and goats.

• Nearby attractions also include an 18-hole miniature golf course, a miniature train ride, carousel and cow bounce house. Individual attractions range from $2 to $5. Day passes also are available for $6 for adults and $12 for children ages 2 to 12.

• The pet shop is housed in a turn-of-the-century building that was one of the original barns used when the property was a working dairy farm. People with developmental disabilities work a variety of jobs from animal care to customer service. The shop offers puppies, kittens, birds, reptiles and small mammals and pet supplies and gifts.

• Food also is among attractions. The Country Inn Restaurant is available for breakfast and lunch, and Aunt Mary's Country Store and Bakery which features a variety of baked goods.

• Lambs Farm also holds events throughout the year. The next events will be the Bunny Brunch March 21 and 22 and the Easter brunch on March 23.

• All attractions except the restaurant are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through October. Lambs Farm is at 14245 W. Rockland Road.
