Eight people arrested during raid in Elgin apartment building
Police targeting drug dealers in public housing raided five apartments in one building at 6 a.m. Thursday, officials said.
Eight people were arrested in the raids on Buena Vista Tower, 222 Locust St.
Police said those arrested were:
• Jasmine "Boogie" Brown, 20, of 222 Locust #805, charged with possession of marijuana.
• Jeremy C. Burnett, 22, of 222 Locust #901, charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana.
• James E. Stewart, 39, of 222 Locust #307, charged with delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
• Deonta M. Giles, 23, of 227 Locust St., charged with delivery of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a senior center and delivery of a controlled substance.
• Maria Kalgan, 25, of 222 Locust St., charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
• Corey Martin, 33, of 300 McLure Ave., Elgin, charged with possession of marijuana and criminal trespass to property.
• Shamika Crenshaw, 29, of 222 Locust, charged with unlawful use of a weapon in a public housing complex.
• Gregory Rogers, 45, of 222 Locust, charged with failure to appear on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Brown, Stewart, Giles were unable to post bond and were sent to the Kane County jail Friday morning.
Burnett posted a $500 bond Friday. Rogers remains in the Elgin lockup with a $2,500 bond.
Crenshaw was released on a notice to appear, and Kalgan and Martin were released on recognizance.
