Batavia wins at Quincy

Dec. 3, 2006

QUINCY - When asked if he ever gets tired of being at the free-throw line, especially in the clutch, Batavia boys basketball star Nick Fruendt was quick to answer.

"No, I love it," he said with a laugh. "It's something I practice all the time."

It's easy to see why. The junior scored 16 of his game-high 31 points from the free-throw line. He went 12-for-12 in the fourth quarter and 16-of-17 in the game, leading the Bulldogs to a 78-67 nonconference win against Quincy on the road Saturday.

"It's a great situation to be in when the game is in my hands," Fruendt said. "If I shoot the free throws, it will be tough for them to come back. I enjoyed being out there."

"He's a veteran," Batavia coach Jim Roberts added of Fruendt. "One of the reasons he was with us as a freshman, obviously was because of what he could do, but also, to look down the road with the potential he had."

Batavia (4-0) never trailed in the game, yet Quincy (2-2) was always close behind the Bulldogs, who jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.
