Name released of Porsche driver in fatal Elgin crash
Authorities have released the name of a 41-year-old Elgin man who died in a head-on crash at Irving Park Road and King Arthur Court.
Dimitare Koev died at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Sherman Hospital in Elgin after a head-on collision between his 1999 Porsche Boxster and a 2003 Infiniti, officials said.
A woman who answered the phone at Koev's home and identified herself as his wife declined to comment.
The Koevs' home is just a few blocks from the site of the crash outside Elgin.
The Kane County coroner's office conducted an autopsy Monday. The preliminary cause of death is multiple blunt force trauma to the chest, abdomen and pelvic areas.
He was thrown from the vehicle.
Toxicology results will be revealed during an inquest in about eight to 10 weeks.
Authorities said a pickup truck and Koev's Porsche were headed west on Irving Park Road, a two-lane road with a speed limit of 45 mph.
Koev tried to pass the pickup and veered into the turn lane at King Arthur, hitting the Infiniti head on, Cook County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Penny Mateck said.
Authorities were reconstructing the crash and no citations had been issued as of Tuesday, Mateck said.
It took firefighters 15 minutes to extricate John Ptak, 29, of Elgin, who was driving the Infiniti.
He was in fair condition at Sherman Monday afternoon and his condition remained the same Tuesday, officials said.
A 37-year-old Schaumburg man who was driving the pickup was taken to Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park with undisclosed injuries.
