Wolves pull into tie for best AHL record

Jesse Schultz scored 2 goals in the third period, helping lift the Chicago Wolves to a 4-1 victory over the Providence Bruins on Sunday at the Allstate Arena.

The victory enabled the Wolves (42-14-2-1) to tie the Bruins (42-14-2-1) for the top spot in the 29-team American Hockey League.

Schultz snapped a 1-1 tie 1:44 into the third period when he fired a backhand shot past Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask. Joe Motzko assisted on the goal.

Schultz added his 20th goal of the season at the 11:16 mark, converting a pass from Kevin Doell.

Wolves goalie Ondrej Pavelec (25-9-1) registered 35 saves to earn his 10th win in his last 12 games.

The Wolves' Brett Sterling netted his AHL-best 31st goal of the season 7:15 into the game for a 1-0 lead.

Wolves captain Darren Haydar iced the game when he scored an empty-net goal with 90 seconds left. Jason Krog, the AHL's leading scorer, notched an assist.
