Aurora cops investigating two scams
Aurora police say they are investigating two separate weekend incidents in which a 94-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man were targeted by scam artists.
The woman told police two men made their way into her locked front porch around noon Friday on the 800 block of Hinman Street.
She said the men told her they were there to repair her driveway. One of the men then grabbed her arms, the woman told police, and began pushing her into the house while asking for money.
When she told them she didn't have cash, the men drove away in what was described only as a large, newer model navy blue vehicle.
The victim told police a third man showed up a short time later and asked about driveway repairs but left without incident.
Nothing was taken and the woman was not injured, police said.
Police said the woman was unable to provide a detailed description of the men.
In the second incident, an Aurora man told police he lost more than $10,000 in a lottery scam that started at a department store on the 2100 block of West Galena Boulevard.
The victim said he was approached by a man around 10 a.m. Saturday who asked him for a ride to a church on the 900 block of West Galena to meet a friend.
When they arrived at the church, the two men told the victim they had a winning $800,000 lottery ticket but needed between $10,000 and $15,000 to secure the prize.
The victim told police he drove the men to two separate banks and withdrew a total of $10,200.
After one of the men said they needed special envelopes for the transaction with the lottery, he drove them to an office supply store on the 2300 block of West Indian Trail.
The victim went to use the bathroom and when he came out discovered the men had fled with his money.
The victim said one of the men went by the name Jose and is about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs about 165 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
The other man goes by the name Rafael and is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes along with sideburns and a mustache.
