Brother of reputed mob boss gets 8 1/2 years for paying murder witness

The brother of a reputed mob boss has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for paying a witness $4,000 a month to keep silent about unsolved underworld murders.

Michael Marcello got credit for three years he's spent in jail since his arrest. That leaves 67 months, along with three years of supervised release for the 58-year-old.

Before being sentenced Tuesday, Marcello expressed regret and said he looked forward returning to his family.

Defense attorneys Arthur Nasser and Catharine O'Daniel say they're disappointed with the sentence.

Marcello pleaded guilty in June to racketeering and other charges. A jury later found Marcello's brother, James, responsible for two mob-related murders.
