Blue Jackets cool off Flames

Backup goalie Fredrik Norrena made 18 saves for his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career and the host Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Calgary Flames 3-0 for their second straight win on Tuesday night.

Norrena -- who had a career-high 43 saves in a 4-3 win against Detroit on Sunday -- started his second straight game for Pascal Leclaire, out with a concussion suffered in warmups before the Red Wings game.

Manny Malhotra scored 2 goals for the second straight game, and Rick Nash had a goal and 2 assists for Columbus, 7 points out of the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Dan Fritsche added 2 assists for the Blue Jackets, who have won three of four.

The Flames could have pulled even with idle Minnesota for first place in the Northwest Division. Calgary, Colorado and Vancouver are tied in the division with 84 points, only 4 points ahead of eighth-place Nashville.

The Flames finished 1-3 on their four-game road trip and have 3 wins in their past seven games.

Blues 4, Canadiens 3 (SO): Brad Boyes scored his 38th goal in the game and was the only player to score in the shootout, and St. Louis ended a 10-game road losing streak by beating host Montreal.

Manny Legace stopped Saku Koivu, Andrei Kostitsyn and Alex Kovalev in the shootout as St. Louis got its first road win in more than a month.

Capitals 4, Predators 2: Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and 2 assists to lead the Capitals past the host Predators.

Ovechkin's 58th goal was an empty-netter. Alexander Semin, Nicklas Backstrom and Matt Bradley added first-period goals for Washington, which tied a season high with its fourth straight victory.

Ovechkin also earned his 100th point of the season. He is the first Capital to record 100 points in a season twice.

J.P. Dumont and Jason Arnott scored for Nashville.
