W. Dundee OKs parking restrictions
The next time you plan on visiting downtown West Dundee, be sure you have a watch to keep track of time or a wad of singles handy.
Trustees on Monday imposed parking restrictions on Second Street, reserved 10, 30-minute spaces on both the north and south sides of Main Street and made way for a valet parking area on Third Street.
Under the new rules, on-street parking along Second Street from Washington to Oregon will be limited to two hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Additionally, four spaces on the south side of Main Street, commonly referred to as Route 72, and six on the north side of the thoroughfare behind businesses will be limited to 30 minutes between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays.
To handle the parking crush on weekends, the village assigned Third Street between Washington and Route 72 as a valet area on Friday and Saturday nights.
The entire roadway will be closed off between Route 72 and Washington Street.
"This doesn't solve every problem," Village President Larry Keller said prior to the board's unanimous vote. "But it goes a long way to solving most of the problems. Most people are reasonably happy with the results."
The parking recommendations were based on numerous meetings between village staff and various business owners.
"I am happy with the choices and ideas for behind the store," said Holly Rodgers, owner of Pet Pals at 115 Main St. "I think overall it will be a good fit and will definitely help downtown. I think the residents are excited too."
The new parking measures go into effect immediately, with the exception of the valet parking proposal.
"This just specifies usage of Third Street for valet parking," Village Manager Joe Cavallaro said.
The area can be used for valet parking purposes subject to proof of insurance and a written agreement between the village and the valet firm, Cavallaro said in a report to the board.
