Community Unit District 300 news
The Dundee-Crown High School Beta Club, primarily a school and community service organization, is sponsoring the second annual prom store of formalwear and accessories at bargain prices. No item will be sold for more than $20.
Attending Prom is one of the most memorable events for high school students. Unfortunately, costs have sky-rocketed making participation impossible for some who would like to attend.
The Beta Club's Prom Store Committee is asking for donations of new and gently used formal wear, including: dresses, shoes jewelry, purses, shawls and men's wear. This appeal is being made to both individuals and retail businesses in the surrounding community. Donations of make-up and even "make-overs" (hair styling, manicures) would be greatly appreciated. Anyone willing to help make some dreams come true is welcome to call the Dundee-Crown Counseling Department for more information.
You can reach club sponsors Judy Gard or Ann DiCosola at (847) 426-1799 or (847) 426-1498. Items may be brought to the Dundee-Crown Counseling Department now through April 2.
The store location is in the counseling complex of Dundee-Crown High School, 1 Charger Country, Carpentersville. Proceeds will be used to fund next year's store.
This year, the store has been named Kelly's Kollection in honor of senior Kelly Lewis, who inspired and developed our original store last year. Kelly's Kollection will open for pre-sales to Dundee-Crown students on April 3-4 during the "Charge It Up" block, by appointment.
Students should obtain passes prior to these dates from Judy Gard or Ann DiCosola in the counseling office. On April 4, the store will open at 3 p.m. to any area high school student with a high school ID. The final sales are scheduled for April 12 beginning at 11 a.m.
On April 12, Dundee-Crown will also host the ACT Test which will give some students a chance to shop after the testing. Again, the store will be open to any area high school student with an ID.
For more information, call staff members Judy Gard, (847) 426-1799, or Ann DiCosola, (847) 426-1498.
Town hall meetings: The Community Unit District 300 School Board has launched a special new effort aimed at establishing a more personal and direct relationship with the taxpayers they represent.
In the district's 2006-07 strategic plan survey, the public expressed a desire to better connect with their elected representatives.
As a result, the board started a series of town hall-style community gatherings. The first meeting was March 15 at Hampshire Elementary School.
Residents are welcome to stop by and casually visit with board members at any or all of these gatherings about any questions or concerns they have.
The gatherings will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with the dates and locations as follows:
• April 19 at the Dundee Township Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville
• May 17 at Neubert Elementary School, 1100 Huntington Drive, Algonquin
Board president Joe Stevens said he is excited about this new avenue to visit with local citizens.
"This is a sincere effort to learn more about what is on the minds of local residents," Stevens said. "Feedback and questions are welcome and wanted. We hope everyone will take a few minutes to come chat with us about the present and future of District 300."
The district is sending home community invitations with every student. The invitation also will be emailed to all District 300 staff and to members of district panels such as the Community Leadership Council, the Community Building Committee, the Community Finance Committee, PTO/PTC Presidents Council, and others.
The invitational flier will be in English and Spanish. A translator will be available at each of the three gatherings.
For details, call the Office of the Superintendent at (847) 426-1300, ext. 310 or Department of Communication Services, at (847) 426-1300, ext. 344.
"The Music Man": Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville has begun the process that will bring you "The Music Man" on April 17-19.
The delightful story of the con man salesman Harold Hill, who fools everybody but the intelligent town librarian Marian Paroo, includes all sorts of characters, cantankerous to painfully shy, is brimful of rousing music, from marches to love ballads, and sparks with the energy and enthusiasm of an extremely talented and large cast.
