Briefs: Quiet zones are back

Two corridors along the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway are back to being quiet zones effective immediately. Engineers no longer will blow their horns at most crossing on sections from North Chicago to Lake Zurich and west of Barrington through Bartlett. The conversion of communication equipment from analog to digital service proceeded more quickly than expected. The quiet zone in that area was suspended last week. Horns will still sound at some crossings until the appropriate road signs are installed to alert motorists.
