Kirk boasts record of achievement
Congressman Mark Kirk is leading efforts to control spending and pass new ethics reforms.
Recently, Kirk became the first member of the Appropriations Committee to swear off earmark spending projects until comprehensive reforms are in place. He is a strong supporter of enacting the Balanced Budget Amendment and the line item veto to control federal spending.
He is also dedicated to improving health care access. Under COBRA, Illinois workers who are laid off can continue their family insurance coverage for 18 months.
With American workers now changing jobs an average of seven times in their lifetime, Kirk co-authored the Health Insurance for Life Act to extend the rights of people to continue their health insurance indefinitely under COBRA should they experience a prolonged job search.
He is also working to preserve Lake Michigan as a safe and affordable source for our drinking water.
Kirk joined local mayors and representatives from the Navy and Openlands to announce the new Fort Sheridan Lakefront Preserve Park. Kirk arranged for the Navy and Openlands, a 43-year-old nonprofit conservation organization, to sign an agreement transferring key Lake Michigan shoreline bluffs and ravines to Openlands. The new park will protect the beachfront bluffs and preserve them for public use and enjoyment.
Kirk is an experienced leader in Washington and an outstanding representative for our district.
