No alcohol allowed as former Geneva strip club site rezoned
The site where a strip club closed on Route 38 just outside of Geneva won't have a similar business take its place.
Last week, the Kane County Board rezoned a 40,000-square-foot piece of property most recently occupied by Thumper's Gentlemen's Club to a zoning that would not allow adult entertainment or alcohol.
The club, briefly renamed "The Sugar Bomb," just east of Kirk Road, was closed last year after the owner defaulted on his lease.
After that, the city of Geneva lobbied the county board to make the zoning change.
"It'll be a big improvement in the area," City Administrator Phil Page said.
The site will retain a business zoning.
The change comes as good timing for developers planning the Jain DeShanti Enclaves of Geneva project, just to the west of the rezoned property.
The sales office for the residential portion of the project is scheduled to open next month, said Scott Dixon of Lornaco Development Inc.
The development will include 270 units in six buildings. A commercial component is scheduled for the development as well.
Those developers had talked to landowners at the site about buying the land but never made a deal.
"I hope sometime we'll meet at the table again," Dixon said.
