Junior League to help at-risk kids

Community members are invited to join the Junior League of Kane and DuPage Counties Inc. at its annual "Spring Fling," a fundraising event to benefit children at risk throughout Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall counties.

The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. March 16 at Abbington Banquets, 3S002 Route 53, Glen Ellyn.

To raise much-needed funds to support its community programs throughout the year, the league will host a ladies' luncheon and silent auction.

This year's event, "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend," will feature a fine jewelry raffle including diamonds and other precious stones. A massive silent auction will be held with items ranging from theater, museum and sporting event tickets to birthday parties, portrait packages and assorted gift baskets. Additionally, each guest will receive a luxurious goody bag as a thank you.

Tickets are $50 per person; half of the ticket price is tax deductible. For reservations, call (630) 653-5989. Tickets will be held at the door.

The Junior League of Kane and DuPage Counties Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children at risk in our community. The women's organization is committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Spring Fling is the sole means of financial support for the group's community programs and all of the proceeds go toward projects focused on building dreams, promoting literacy and developing self-esteem among children at risk in local communities.
