Tarot card readers arrested near Naperville

The DuPage County Sheriff's Department said it believes the owners of a tarot card reading business near Naperville weren't dealing with a full deck while allegedly tricking customers out of thousands of dollars.

Sheriff's deputies said Monday they arrested 37-year-old Tracy M. Tan and 34-year-old Eric Tan Friday on several felony charges.

Eric Tan is charged with possession of a fraudulent ID card. Tracy Tan is charged with eight felonies, including theft, forgery and possession of a fraudulent ID.

The Tans are the owners of Psychic Tarot Card Reading at 9S275 Route 59 in an unincorporated area near Naperville.

The first hint of some bad karma came last November when the sheriff's office received a complaint about the business. An investigation resulted in search warrants that yielded an undisclosed amount of jewelry and cash at the business.

The sheriff's office said the couple used their business to convince customers they had a curse on them and Tracy Tan was the only one who could help.

That help came at the price of thousands of dollars, which the sheriff's office said provided customers with a false sense of hope.

The Tans are both being held in the DuPage County jail on $750,000 bonds. They will appear in court on April 7.

Anyone with information or who believes they were victimized by the Tans should contact the DuPage County sheriff's office at (630) 407-2323.
