Fire razes empty home in St. Charles Twp.
A fire swept through an unoccupied home in St. Charles Township early Friday, causing an estimated $750,000 in damage to the structure and contents.
The St. Charles Fire Department responded at 4:24 a.m. to 38W594 Hilltop Drive and brought the fire under control within an hour.
One firefighter felt ill and was taken to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva for observation. He was treated and released.
According to officials, the home is occupied by a husband and wife, who were both out of town. Losses included a large pleasure boat.
Investigators are working to determine the cause.
The St. Charles Fire Department was assisted by the Geneva, Batavia, Elburn and West Chicago fire departments.
